Accommodation 1/2 a minute stroll to Piha Beach

Piha Beach is a coastal village 40km west of Auckland City.  You drive through the supurb Waitakere Ranges to get to famous Piha Beach.  The road is windy at times but in great condition with several 'slow driver' bays for slower traffic to pull in to. 

Do keep to the left when driving in case traffic coming in the opposite direction, stupidly, cuts corners.  Be careful over taking other vehicles.

Enjoy the drive and stop at times to take in the great native NZ bush you are driving through.

Directions to Piha from Auckland Airport:

Distance 49.3km.  Estimated travel time 40 minutes

Exit the Airport following the signs to Auckland City (Route 20). Get your groceries at Foodtown supermarket on your right as you leave the Airport as there is no supermark in Piha.  Continuing on Route 20 over the Mangere Bridge go past the Queenstown Road exit.  The next exit is Hillsborough Road and has traffic lights.  Turn left (Route 15).  Stay on this road for about 15 minutes until you come to a round-about at Blockhouse Bay.  Driving through the round-about take the 2nd left onto Kinross Street.  Drive down Kinross Street to the next round-about and turn left onto Portage Road.  The road veers to the right and becomes Godley Road.  Stay on Godley Road (careful - speed camers) through the village of Green Bay  to the top of the hill.  At the T intersection turn left onto Titirangi Road which will take you to the charming village of Titirangi.  Stop here at the Hardware Cafe for lunch and a good coffee.  Fill up your petrol here as there is no petrol at Piha.

At the bottom of the hill, now Seaview Road, immediately turn left into Beach Valley Road and continue toward the beach.  After two speed humps on the road you will see an 'Accommodation' sign on the left - this is Piha Beach Accommodation - Black Sands Lodge.

Guests for Piha Beach Cabin: please pull into this driveway being careful as you are going over a very short bridge with no sides.

Guests for the Tui or Kauri Suites: Please drive past this sign and turn first left into Sylvan Glade.  Now turn into the first driveway on the left.  Guests for the Tui Suite should park in the parking bay on the left just inside the gate and guests for the Kauri Suite should continue up the drive to its end - this is the Kauri Suite.

If we don't see you arrive please go back to the left hand pillar of the gate and press the bell above the solar light.  We will come and greet you and show you your Suite.

Directions to Piha from Auckland City:

Distance 40km. Estimated travel time 45 minutes.

From Auckland City travel along the North-Western Motorway (Route 16) taking the 2nd exit off.  There is a brown sign saying 'Twin Coast Discovery - Great North Road, which is approx 5 minutes drive along this motorway (as long as there isn't gridlock!) from Auckland City.  Veer left onto Gt. North Road.  Stay on this road.

Staying on this main road and pass the Avondale Racecourse on your left.  The road now becomes Rata Street.  Continue on this road past the big sign 'The Warehouse' on your left.  At the traffic lights here (Great North Road & Rata St) go straight ahead.  You are now on Titirangi Road - be careful, there are often speed cameras on this road.  Staying on this road to the charming village of Titirangi.

Stop now and take a break at the Hardware Cafe - great coffee and food.  Fill up at the Shell Service station here too - there is no petrol at Piha.

Directions to Piha from SH16 - North:

Directions to Auckland Airport from Piha:

Head out of Piha up the hill and continue all the way until you get to the compulsory STOP sign - about 12-15 minutes.  Turn right and follow this main road all the way to Titirangi.  Do not turn down Route 13.  At the Titirangi roundabout turn right, 3rd left off the roundabout, through the village of Titirangi.  Good coffee and food at the Hardware Cafe opposite the Shell petrol station.

Follow the main road through Titirangi a short distance to the Green Bay roundabout - sign says Godley Road. Turn right here.

Follow this all the way to the next roundabout.  Take the turn to the right - Kinross Street.

Follow this to the next roundabout.  Go straight through to Hillsborough Road.

Stay on this road all the way until you get to a set of traffic lights at the big roundabout at Hugh Watt Drive - at least 10-12 minutes. Turning right following the directions now, Route 20, all the way to the Airport.
